Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, who represents Texas’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 25, 2025, addressing concerns about the redistricting process in Texas and the involvement of federal officials.
In her first post at 14:01 UTC, Fletcher wrote, “I joined @RepGonzalez in demanding that the Texas Redistricting Committee hold a field hearing in the Rio Grande Valley. It is critical that Texans have their say about this redistricting effort rather than the White House.”
Later that day at 14:59 UTC, she stated, “No American should accept a president deciding who represents Americans in Congress — especially when that president may be worried about the outcome of upcoming midterms. If any president can order up redistricting in this way, it will hasten the end of our federal and state”.
At 16:37 UTC, Fletcher added more details regarding upcoming legislative activity: “: In the coming days, the Texas House and Senate will hold public hearings on the Congressional redistricting effort that Governor Abbott has ordered them to undertake at the request of President Trump. I plan to testify, and want to let you know that you can, too. (1/3)”
Fletcher’s comments come as Texas prepares for public hearings related to congressional redistricting—a process initiated by Governor Greg Abbott following a request from President Donald Trump. The congresswoman emphasized local participation over federal intervention.
Lizzie Pannill Fletcher has served as U.S. Representative for Texas’s 7th District since 2019 after succeeding John Culberson. Born in Houston in 1975 and currently residing there, Fletcher graduated from Kenyon College with a BA in 1997 and later earned her JD from the College of William and Mary in 2006.
