Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, who represents Texas’ 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing federal budget cuts and community events in Houston.
On April 10, 2026, Fletcher criticized President Trump’s proposed budget cuts, stating: “From cutting billions for infrastructure projects, NIH medical research, NOAA weather forecasting, and FEMA disaster preparedness grants, to fully eliminating funding for things like renewable energy development programs, President Trump’s budget burns down important investments”.
The following day, on April 11, she shared her experience at a local naturalization ceremony: “What a joy and a privilege to join Judge Keith Ellison and to address our neighbors and newest U.S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony at home in Houston this week. It was inspiring to witness nearly 1,500 new American citizens, hailing from 87 countries, including 10 U.S.”
Later that same day, Fletcher highlighted concerns over proposed eliminations of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): “Last year, 100,000 Houstonians needed help with their energy bills and applied for federal assistance through the LIHEAP program. The Trump administration wants to eliminate the program entirely. I joined my colleagues to urge congressional leaders to reject this cruel proposal.”
Lizzie Pannill Fletcher has served as the representative for Texas’s 7th District since replacing John Culberson in 2019. She has consistently secured her seat through multiple election cycles—defeating John Culberson in 2018 (52.5% to 47.5%), Wesley Hunt in 2020 (50.8% to 47.4%), Johnny Teague in 2022 (63.8% to 36.2%), and Caroline Kane in 2024 (61.3% to 38.7%).
