U.S. Representative Lizzie Fletcher used her social media platform this week to address ongoing debates about congressional redistricting in Texas, voicing concerns over potential elimination of Democratic districts and the implications for voters’ rights.
On July 30, Fletcher stated, “This week, I testified before the Texas Senate Special Committee on Congressional Redistricting to explain why it cannot eliminate any of the 13 districts currently represented by Democrats without violating the law and the rights of Texas voters, and why it should not.” She emphasized her opposition to any plans that would reduce Democratic representation in Congress from Texas.
The following day, Fletcher criticized state leaders in another post. On July 31 she wrote, ” Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans are surrendering Texas to President Trump, who has told them he expects them to eliminate congressional districts represented by Democrats in Texas districts so that he can shore up his power in Washington.” The message highlighted what she described as political pressure from national leadership on state-level redistricting decisions.
Fletcher also shared logistical information for constituents on July 31 regarding a local event: “Reminder: if you’re attending the #TX07 Passport Fair in Mission Bend this Saturday, you’ll need to make an appointment. Sign up at: https://t.co/9ocXGiAFxv https://t.co/t2sfmt8Zik”
Lizzie Fletcher has served as U.S. Representative since defeating John Culberson in 2018. In subsequent elections, she maintained her seat with consistent margins—winning against Wesley Hunt in 2020 (50.8% to 47.4%), Johnny Teague in 2022 (63.8% to 36.2%), and Caroline Kane in 2024 (61.3% to 38.7%). These victories have established her as a prominent Democratic figure within her district.
Redistricting remains a contentious issue across the United States as states redraw legislative boundaries after each census cycle—a process often fraught with legal challenges and partisan debate.
