Houston won the Silver Glove Series against Rice with a 4-3 victory on April 22, after Riley Jackson hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the ninth inning at Reckling Park. The game had been delayed by more than an hour due to rain before play began.

The outcome matters as it marks Houston’s fifth consecutive Silver Glove Series win and ended Rice’s unbeaten streak in one-run games this season. The close contest highlighted both teams’ resilience and featured multiple lead changes.

Houston took an early lead by scoring in each of the first two innings, but Rice responded with runs from Hiram Bocachica Jr., Kutter Gage Webb, and Landis Davila to tie the game in the second inning. Houston regained its advantage in the fifth inning through a solo home run by Cade Climie. In the seventh, Rice tied it again when pinch runner Zachary Daigre scored on an infield single by Cole Green after advancing on a balk and groundout.

In their final opportunity, Rice threatened with runners on base after Landis Davila and Cole Green were hit by pitches, but pinch hitter Landon West’s deep drive was caught near the wall to end the game. Notable performances included Logan Voelz pitching a career-long 2.2 innings for Rice and Blank working a season-high four innings. Davila continued his strong form with 13 runs batted in over his last 16 games.

With this loss, Rice’s record stands at 24-18 overall, including 13-10 at home and now 7-4 in midweek games. The Owls will next travel to Wichita for a weekend series against Wichita State starting Friday before returning home to host Lamar next Tuesday.
