Guard Kaelyn Hamilton, who was named the 2025-26 Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year, has joined the University of Houston Women’s Basketball Program, Head Coach Matthew Mitchell announced on Apr. 16.

Hamilton comes to Houston after two seasons at San Diego State University. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Cougars. Her addition follows a successful run with the Aztecs, where she contributed to both a Mountain West Tournament title in 2024-25 and a regular season championship in 2025-26.

During her sophomore year at San Diego State, Hamilton played in 33 games and averaged 7.7 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field off the bench. She set a career-high with an 18-point performance against Wyoming on Feb. 28, making seven out of eight shots. She also recorded eight rebounds against McNeese on March 22 for another personal best.

In conference play last season, Hamilton averaged over eight points per game while maintaining high shooting percentages: 55 percent from the field and nearly 44 percent from three-point range in under nineteen minutes per contest. As a freshman, she appeared in all thirty-four games for San Diego State and earned recognition for her academic achievements by being named to the Mountain West All-Academic Team.

Before college, Hamilton attended McKinney North High School in Texas where she played under her mother Veronica Reed-Hamilton and won three district championships. She set school records for career points (2,350) and assists (426), as well as single-game steals (11). Her high school accolades include being named District MVP three times along with multiple All-Region and All-State selections.
