Rice University sophomore Julia Johannesdottir was named the American Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement made by the league on April 14.

The recognition highlights Johannesdottir’s achievements during this outdoor season, particularly her recent performance in the 100-meter hurdles. She set a personal best with a time of 13.13 seconds.

Johannesdottir’s result currently places her first among competitors in the American Athletic Conference, fifth in the NCAA West Region, and seventeenth nationally in NCAA rankings for the event.

This week, Rice University’s track and field athletes are scheduled to compete at meets hosted by both University of Houston and locations in California. The honors released on April 14 also included Jelese Alexander from Wichita State as Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

The latest awards reflect ongoing competition within collegiate track and field as athletes continue their outdoor season.
