The University of Houston Women’s Golf team is set to participate in the Lady Luck Invitational at Las Vegas Country Club, starting Monday morning. The event will feature 36 holes on the first day with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. (CST), followed by the final round on Tuesday.
Houston comes into the tournament after finishing eighth at their own Chevron Collegiate, held February 23-24 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. That event included ten programs ranked among the nation’s top 50.
Senior Moa Svedenskiöld finished strong at the Chevron Collegiate, tying her career-low round with a 66 and securing a tie for fourth place. This marked her third consecutive Top-10 finish this season. Junior Maelynn Kim also had a notable performance, shooting a final-round 69 and joining Svedenskiöld in the Top 10 with an overall score of four-under-par 212.
The Cougars’ lineup for the Lady Luck Invitational includes Svedenskiöld, Kim, senior Natalie Saint Germain, senior Alexa Saldaña and junior Ellen Yates. Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla leads the team this season.
Svedenskiöld currently holds the lowest scoring average on the team at 71.73. Saint Germain is second with an average of 72.00 and leads Houston with nine rounds of par or better, including five rounds in the 60s. She won her first individual collegiate title at the Jim West Challenge in October with a score of ten-under-par 206.
Houston will compete against thirteen other teams: New Mexico, Texas State, Baylor, Kent State, Texas Tech, Northern Arizona, UTSA, Nevada, BYU, UCF, Oklahoma State, Oregon State and host UNLV.
For Monday’s opening round groups are set to include players from Kent State and Oklahoma State alongside Houston’s golfers. Tee times begin at 10:30 a.m., with each Cougar starting from different holes between No.4 and No.7.
After completing play in Las Vegas, Houston will continue its western schedule by participating in MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club in Tucson from March 20-22.
