The University of Houston Women’s Golf team finished the first day of the Huntington Bank Collegiate in fourth place, according to an April 6 update from the program. The tournament is being held at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The Cougars, ranked 32nd nationally, posted a combined score of 565 over two rounds on the par-72 course. Their morning round ended with a score of five-under-par (283), followed by a second-round score of 282 in the afternoon.
Senior Natalie Saint Germain led Houston by tying for sixth individually with a total score of five-under-par (139). Fellow senior Moa Svedenskiöld also placed among the top ten, tying for ninth after shooting consecutive rounds of 70 for a total score of 140. Other notable performances included senior Alexa Saldaña and freshman Sadie Adams, who were tied for 17th at 143, while junior Maelynn Kim and sophomore Emilia Väistö finished the day tied for 25th at 144.
UCLA held the team lead with a score of 559, one stroke ahead of Oklahoma State. SMU was in third place with a score of 564. The top ten teams also included Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arizona, TCU, Tulane, and Colorado State.
Individually, Marta Silchenko from Oklahoma State led the field with a score of 135. The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.
Following this tournament, Houston will compete in the Big 12 Championships from April 23-25 in Dallas before entering NCAA postseason play starting May 11. The Cougars will learn their postseason placement during the NCAA Selection Show on April 29.
