The University of Houston Track & Field team is preparing for the 2026 Big 12 Indoor Championships, which will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas. The event is hosted by Texas Tech.
The competition schedule begins with multi events at 10 a.m. on both days. Running events start at 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, while field events are set for 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
During the indoor regular season, Houston athletes achieved 46 victories, recorded 89 personal bests, and set 23 new Top-10 school marks. Three school records were broken this season: men’s 60-meter hurdles, men’s weight throw, and women’s pole vault.
Graduate student Jamar Marshall Jr. was named Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the Week after winning the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational on January 10. He later set a school record in that event with a time of 7.54 seconds at the Don Kirby Invitational on February 14.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Lott established a new school record in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 21.41 meters at the Howie Ryan Invitational on February 13.
Sophomore Evina Panagiotou broke her own women’s pole vault record twice this season—first with a mark of 4.21 meters at the Robert Platt Invitational on January 30, then improving to 4.25 meters at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on February 7.
Three Cougars currently rank among the top-16 nationally to qualify for NCAA Indoor Nationals: Marshall Jr., who is ranked tenth in men’s 60-meter hurdles; senior Kaycee McCoy, ranked eleventh in women’s 60-meter hurdles; and freshman Dominic Harper, ranked fifteenth in men’s 200-meters.
Houston recently announced that Louie Hinchliffe—the reigning NCAA champion in the outdoor men’s 100-meters and an Olympian—has returned to compete for Houston and will participate in the men’s indoor 60-meter event.
The team brings back two champions from last year’s Big 12 Indoor Championships as well as one outdoor champion. Graduate Grant Levesque will make his season debut aiming for his third consecutive title in men’s heptathlon; junior Antrea Mita seeks to defend his title as men’s indoor high jump champion; and Marshall Jr., who won last year’s outdoor men’s110-meter hurdles championship, aims for his first Cougar title in the indoor men’s60-meter hurdles.
