The University of Houston men’s golf team will finish its regular-season schedule at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, which begins April 10 at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The tournament will see the Cougars play 36 holes on Saturday, with the final round set for Sunday morning.
This event marks an important step as Houston prepares for postseason play. The team recently placed seventh at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and is looking to build momentum ahead of upcoming championships.
Jonathan Dismuke, Mike Booker Director of Golf, leads a squad that includes senior Hudson Weibel, junior Grant Doggett, junior Chi Chun Chen, sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen and senior Bryant Hiskey II. Senior Kevin An will compete as an individual. “This season, Weibel leads the Cougars with a 70.44 scoring average and 20 rounds of par or better in 27 total rounds,” according to the program announcement. Weibel has won three individual titles this season and is noted as being the first Cougar since Roman Robledo in 2013-14 to win three or more tournaments in one year.
Doggett holds second place on the team with a scoring average of 71.41 and shares second-most rounds of par or lower (14) with Chi Chun Chen and Hsuan-Yi Chen. Doggett led Houston at Augusta by tying for fourteenth after shooting seven-under-par over three rounds.
The field for this year’s Tar Heel Intercollegiate features fifteen teams including top-ranked squads such as Duke (#27), Texas A&M (#29), UNCW (#42), Campbell, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Kennesaw State, Nebraska and UCF alongside host North Carolina (#11). Tee times begin Saturday morning with Houston grouped alongside players from North Carolina, Duke and Texas A&M.
After this event concludes on Sunday morning, Houston’s focus will shift to postseason competition starting with the Big 12 Championship from April 27-29 at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kansas. The NCAA Selection Show follows on April 29 where teams learn their regional assignments; NCAA Regional play takes place May 18-20 across six national sites.
