The University of Houston men’s golf team finished in seventh place at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, according to an April 5 announcement. Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen led the Cougars in the final round with a career-low score of 66, tying for 19th overall.

Chen’s performance included four birdies and an eagle in a bogey-free round. He began his day on hole No. 5 and recorded birdies on holes No. 6 and No. 9 before making an eagle-3 on the par-5, 11th hole. He closed out with additional birdies at No. 13 and No. 17, surpassing his previous personal best scores achieved earlier this season.

Junior Grant Doggett also contributed by overcoming a challenging start to finish with a score of 72 in the final round, tying for 14th place at nine-under-par for the tournament. This marks Doggett’s fifth top-20 finish this year.

Other notable performances included junior Chi Chun Chen and senior Hudson Weibel tying for 31st place, while senior Bryant Hiskey II tied for 65th position.

North Carolina claimed the team championship with a total score of 810, finishing ahead of Oklahoma State by fifteen strokes. The individual title was decided after North Carolina’s Sihan Sandhu defeated Thomas Horne of Georgia Southern in a playoff when both players finished tied at fifteen-under-par.

Looking ahead, Houston will close its regular season at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill on April 11-12 before competing in postseason events such as the Big 12 Championships later this month and potentially NCAA Regional play beginning May 18.
