The University of Houston women’s tennis team will play its final two matches of the regular season against West Virginia on Friday and Cincinnati on Sunday, according to an April 9 announcement.

These matches mark the end of the regular schedule for Houston, which is currently ranked number 36 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team poll. The Cougars will face West Virginia at the Mountaineers Tennis Courts at 4 p.m. Central Time on Friday, followed by a match against Cincinnati at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center at 11 a.m. Central Time on Sunday.

In their most recent outings, Houston defeated number 31 Oklahoma State by forfeit and secured a 4-1 victory over Kansas State. Doubles pairs Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame, as well as Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, contributed to winning doubles points in these matches. Krokhotina, Drame, and Sophie Schouten each claimed singles victories during the win over Kansas State.

Houston is in its second season under Head Coach Katarina Adamovic and has five returning starters from last year. The team began this season with an 11-0 record—their best start since 1990—and swept their first eight opponents for the first time in program history. Schouten leads with a singles record of 14-1 on court six, while Krokhotina holds thirteen singles wins with a current six-match winning streak.

West Virginia enters Friday’s match with a record of seven wins and eleven losses overall (one win in conference play). Julie Bousseau and Audrey Moutama have each recorded seven singles victories for West Virginia this season. On Sunday, Houston will face Cincinnati, which holds an overall record of seven wins and twelve losses; Milica Popovski and Sara Wantanabe lead that squad with eight singles wins apiece.
