The University of Houston women’s tennis team lost to the University of Central Florida, 4-1, on March 28 at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Facility.

The match saw UCF, ranked number 21 nationally, secure the doubles point with wins from Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye over Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina (6-1), and Jade Psnoka and Vladislava Andreevskaya over Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame (6-2). The Knights improved their season record to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in Big 12 play. Houston entered the contest ranked number 43 with a record of 13-5 overall and a conference mark of 4-5.

In singles action, Houston senior Sophie Schouten earned her thirteenth singles victory this season by defeating Seye in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) on court six. However, UCF regained momentum as Bergler beat Chems Doha Zeghlouli (6-4, 7-5) on court two. The remaining matches were closely contested; Jantje Tilbuerger defeated Morozova in three sets (6-1, 1-6, 6-1), while Marina Gatell won against Sepa after three sets as well (6-3, 0-6, 6-2).

Several matches went unfinished as both teams battled into third sets. In doubles play, Schouten and Zeghlouli’s match against Tilbuerger and Gatell was left incomplete at a score of 3–4. Singles contests between Krokhotina versus Andreevskaya (UCF) stood at one set each before being halted.

The Cougars will seek to rebound when they host Missouri State on Sunday at the same venue.
