The University of Houston women’s tennis team defeated Missouri State with a 4-0 sweep at the Barbara Wallace Tennis Facility on March 29.

The match was important for Houston as it helped the team improve its season record to 14-4 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 play. The win also marked a strong comeback after previous matches.

In doubles, Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli, along with Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina, each secured decisive 6-1 victories on courts one and three. In singles competition, Petja Drame won against Elise Jackson with scores of 6-0, 6-1; Elizaveta Morozova defeated Lucy Lathan by the same margin; and Gabriela Cortes clinched her season debut over Laticia Caldararo, finishing 6-1, 6-0. The remaining singles matches were unfinished but saw Houston leading in each.

Houston will continue its homestand on Friday when it faces #25 Oklahoma State at home for Senior Day. The program plans to honor seniors Sophie Schouten, Chems Doha Zeghlouli, Gabriela Cortes, and Elizaveta Morozova following that match.

The victory adds momentum for the Cougars as they prepare for upcoming conference challenges.
