The University of Houston Track and Field program won 12 events at the Victor Lopez Classic, according to a March 28 announcement from the university.
The strong performance highlights the team’s depth in both field and running events. Athletes achieved personal bests and swept several races during the competition.
In field events, Ty Lott won the men’s hammer throw with a personal best of 61.91 meters. Cordell Nwokeji took first place in men’s shot put, also setting a personal record at 19.55 meters, while Cleo Agyepong claimed victory in women’s shot put with a mark of 15.15 meters. Evina Panagiotou led the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.98 meters.
On the track, Houston’s relay teams secured top spots in both men’s and women’s categories. The men’s team finished first in both the 4×100-meter (39.69 seconds) and 4×400-meter relays (3:11.66). Kaycee McCoy made her outdoor season debut by winning the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.31 seconds.
Other notable performances included Zyon Alston’s win in the women’s 100-meter dash (11.77 seconds), Trey East III leading a sweep of the men’s 400-meter race (46.54 seconds), and Dominic Harper taking first place in the men’s 200-meter final (20.93 seconds).
Looking ahead, Houston will compete at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from April 1-4 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin, Texas.
