The University of Houston softball team will host its final regular season home game against Sam Houston on April 21 before traveling to face Arizona in the last Big 12 series of the season, according to an announcement on April 20.

These matchups are significant as they mark the conclusion of the regular season and could impact postseason positioning. The Cougars play Sam Houston at Cougar Softball Stadium in Houston, followed by a three-game series against Arizona from April 24-26 at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium in Tucson.

Houston has a strong record against Sam Houston, leading the all-time series 35-5 and currently holding a five-game winning streak. In contrast, the Cougars have yet to secure a win against Arizona, trailing in their all-time meetings with a record of 0-7. The last meeting between these teams resulted in an 8-3 victory for Arizona on May 4, 2025.

This season, Houston has hit 68 home runs—the second most in program history—and is close to tying its single-season record of 73 set in 2008. Sophomore Maddie Hartley and junior Makenna Mitchell are making program history as the first duo with more than fifteen home runs each in one season. Hartley currently has nineteen homers while Mitchell follows with seventeen.

Other notable performances include sophomore pitcher Nevaeh Brown’s five complete games and her ranking among Big 12 leaders for strikeouts and innings pitched. Mitchell also ranks third in assists within the conference this year. Additionally, sophomore Isabel Cintron leads the Big 12 with nine sacrifice bunts and is second for runners caught stealing.

Fans are encouraged to support the team through UH’s NIL collective LinkingCoogs or by joining the Diamond Club. Those attending games should note that clear bag policies remain enforced at all athletic venues.
