The University of Houston softball team is set to complete its seven-game road trip with a three-game series against Brigham Young University, beginning April 9. The games will take place at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah, with matchups scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. Central Time and Saturday at 1 p.m.

This series holds significance as Houston looks to build on momentum from its first Big 12 Conference series win of the season against Baylor. That victory included the longest game in program history, lasting 15 innings and nearly five hours—a mark that also stands as the longest regular season game in Big 12 history.

Junior pitcher Gigi Solis set a new program record by pitching over twelve innings during that marathon contest. Sophomore Maddie Hartley and junior Makenna Mitchell each have hit fifteen home runs this season, tying them for seventh-most in a single season for Houston and second among all players in the conference this year. Freshman Ronnie Esparza recently recorded her first two career home runs during the Baylor series.

Mitchell leads the team with twelve doubles this year—one away from entering Houston’s top ten single-season list—and ranks second in assists within the conference. Sophomore Isabel Cintron is second among Big 12 catchers for runners caught stealing.

The Cougars’ offense has produced fifty-eight home runs so far, placing them fourth all-time for a single season at Houston and ranking twenty-first nationally. Twelve different players have contributed to this total.

Sophomore pitcher Nevaeh Brown has thrown five complete games this year and needs one more win to reach double digits on the season; she currently sits sixth among conference pitchers with seventy-three strikeouts.
