The Houston Cougars baseball team will begin a three-game road series against Texas Tech in Lubbock, starting Thursday, April 2. The games are scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday at noon, with all matchups available on ESPN+.

This series marks an important stretch for Houston as the team faces a challenging opponent in Texas Tech. The Red Raiders currently lead the all-time series against Houston, holding a 50-45 advantage overall and a 28-15 record when playing in Lubbock. Texas Tech is also on an eight-game winning streak over Houston.

Probable starters for the opening game include right-handed pitcher Connor Udland for Houston and Lukas Pirko for Texas Tech. On Friday, Kendall Hoffman is set to start for Houston against Connor Mohan of Texas Tech. Saturday’s probable pitchers are Paul Schmitz for Houston and Jackson Burns for the Red Raiders.

Several former Cougars have made it to Major League Baseball Opening Day rosters this season: John King (Miami), Jared Triolo (Pittsburgh), and Connor Wong (Boston). Junior Tre Broussard has received national attention as an MLB Draft prospect, being ranked No. 46 by MLB.com on its first Top 100 Draft prospects list of 2026.

Houston began its season strongly with four wins at the Puerto Rico Challenge, including a victory over No. 21 Wake Forest in what was noted as the first NCAA Division I Baseball game of the season. That performance brought national recognition to the program with votes in national polls during subsequent weeks.

Head Coach Todd Whitting led his team to its highest-ranked win under his tenure by defeating #2 Texas on March 24. Under Whitting’s leadership overall against Texas Tech, however, Houston holds a record of one win and twelve losses.
