Houston Baseball will play its sixth ranked opponent of the season in a three-game series against No. 15 West Virginia, starting Friday, April 17. The games are scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at noon, all in Morgantown, West Virginia.

This matchup is important as Houston has already demonstrated success against highly ranked teams this season and continues to challenge itself with a demanding schedule. The Cougars have secured wins over top-ranked programs such as No. 2 Texas and No. 4 Alabama according to the NCAA’s latest RPI release, making them the only Big 12 team with a Top 3 win.

The probable pitchers for Houston are Kendall Hoffman on Friday and Paul Schmitz on Saturday, with Sunday’s starter yet to be determined. For West Virginia, Dawson Montesa will pitch Friday, Maxx Yehl on Saturday, and Chansen Cole on Sunday.

Houston holds a record of two wins and three losses against ranked opponents this year. Notable victories include defeating No. 2 Texas on March 24 and No. 21 Wake Forest earlier in the season during the Puerto Rico Challenge—a performance that brought national attention to the team.

In addition to their challenging schedule that includes teams from all Power Four conferences, Houston boasts several players recognized at higher levels of baseball; three former Cougars made MLB Opening Day rosters this year while others continue their careers in professional leagues.

West Virginia leads the all-time series between these teams with three wins since their first meeting in 2025. The last game was won by West Virginia on April 13, with an outcome of 11-4.
