Houston Baseball lost the final game of its weekend series against Arizona, 6-5, on May 10 at Hi Corbett Field. After winning the first two games, Houston was unable to secure a sweep as Arizona came from behind late in the game.
The outcome is significant for Houston (22-29, 6-21 Big 12), which saw freshman Caleb Kimble take the loss after allowing a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning. Kimble pitched two innings and recorded his 21st strikeout of the season. Patrick Morris earned the win for Arizona (18-32, 8-19 Big 12) by pitching four innings and giving up just two hits.
Junior Tre Broussard led Houston with a career-best hitting streak extended to ten games and went two-for-four with a run scored and a stolen base. Senior Tyler Cox reached base safely for his fourteenth consecutive game. Freshman Blake Fields contributed his fifth multi-RBI game of the year with two runs batted in.
Arizona built an early lead by scoring twice in both the second and third innings. Houston responded in the sixth inning with five runs to take a brief lead, highlighted by RBI hits from Savattere, Perez, Sabathia III, and Fields. However, Arizona tied it up in the seventh before Joe Forbes hit what would be a decisive solo home run in the eighth inning.
Looking ahead, Houston will return home for its final homestand of the season. The team will host Rice on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., followed by three games against Arizona State to close out regular-season play. All upcoming games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
