Houston Baseball lost to Texas Christian University, 8-3, in the series opener at Lupton Stadium on Friday night, April 24. Senior Cade Climie hit two home runs for Houston, bringing his total to six this season and marking his 50th career multi-hit game.
The game is notable as five of Climie’s six home runs this year have come on the road. He has also reached base safely in fourteen consecutive games. Sophomore Kendall Hoffman took the loss for Houston after pitching six innings and allowing six runs but tying his career high with seven strikeouts. Trever Baumler earned the win for TCU by giving up two runs over five and two-thirds innings.
Climie’s performance included going two-for-four with two home runs, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Riley Jackson contributed with a double and scored a run, while Antonelli Savattere added an RBI single late in the game.
The Cougars started strong when Climie hit his first homer in the second inning to give Houston an early lead. However, TCU responded immediately with three runs on a home run of their own in the bottom half of that inning. The Horned Frogs extended their lead throughout the middle innings before Houston narrowed it briefly when Climie homered again in the sixth inning.
Despite scoring first for the twenty-fifth time this season and hitting multiple homers for the thirteenth time this year, Houston was unable to overcome TCU’s offense. The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by Sunday’s finale at 1 p.m., with both games available via ESPN+ streaming.
