Houston Baseball lost to No. 15 West Virginia, 7-1, in the second game of their weekend series on April 18 at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

The loss marks a setback for Houston as they continue their series against a nationally ranked opponent. The result leaves the Cougars looking to rebound in the final game of the matchup.

Ian Korn earned the win for West Virginia after pitching five innings in relief and allowing one run on three hits. Houston senior Paul Schmitz took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits over nearly six innings. Senior Cade Climie led Houston offensively with two hits and has now reached base safely in eleven consecutive games, recording his forty-ninth career multi-hit performance. Blake Fields added two hits while Jackson LaLima contributed with a hit and a walk.

Schmitz held West Virginia to just one hit through four innings before surrendering runs in the fifth and sixth frames as West Virginia built a lead with key singles and timely hitting. Houston scored its only run when Antonelli Savattere drove home Climie in the seventh inning, but West Virginia responded by adding three more runs that same inning.

The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon Central Time and will be streamed on ESPN+. Fans are encouraged to follow updates about Houston Baseball through social media channels including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.
