The University of Houston announced on Apr. 18 that Elodie Lutbert, an All-Western Athletic Conference Freshman and Defensive Team honoree, has signed with the women’s basketball program. Head Coach Matthew Mitchell said Lutbert will join the team with three years of eligibility remaining after playing her freshman season at Tarleton State.

Lutbert, a 6-foot-6 center from Sainte-Luce, Martinique, became the first Western Athletic Conference freshman to be named to the league’s All-Defensive Team since the 2012-13 season. She set Tarleton State’s single-season record for blocks with 65 and also set a Division I era single-season rebounds record for the program with 234.

During her freshman year at Tarleton State, Lutbert led her team in rebounds per game (7.8), blocks per game (2.2), and was third in scoring at 10.4 points per game. She recorded three games with five blocks each—an achievement not reached by a Tarleton State freshman since 2005—and posted nine double-doubles during the season, becoming the first freshman since 1985-86 to do so for the Texans.

Before joining college basketball in Texas, Lutbert played for ESB Villeneuve-d’Ascq in France’s Ligue Féminine de Basketball. Internationally, she represented France at both the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championship in 2025—helping secure a third consecutive title while averaging 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds—and at the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championships in 2023.
