Representative Dan Crenshaw addressed the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in a series of posts on September 5, 2025, outlining his views on program reforms and emphasizing efforts to combat waste and fraud.

In one post, Crenshaw wrote, “Democrats call it ‘taking food off the table.’ What it really does is take waste, fraud, and abuse off the table.” (September 5, 2025). He further clarified his position by stating that “SNAP should be about providing real essentials — milk, bread, meat, fruits, vegetables — to families who have no other way to obtain them.” (September 5, 2025).

In another message posted the same day, Crenshaw listed specific objectives for SNAP reform: “Here’s what it accomplishes:
• Ensures SNAP benefits go to Americans, not illegals
• Stops billions in improper payments
• Keeps the program fiscally sound by requiring able bodied adults to work or seek work”
(September 5, 2025).

Dan Crenshaw has represented Texas’s second congressional district since first winning election in 2018. He has consistently secured re-election victories against Democratic challengers over four consecutive cycles: defeating Todd Litton in 2018 with approximately 52.8% of the vote; Sima Ladjevardian in 2020 with about 55.6%; Robin Fulford in 2022 with nearly two-thirds of ballots cast; and Peter Filler in 2024 with a similar margin.

The SNAP program provides nutrition assistance to millions of eligible low-income individuals and families across the United States. Debates over eligibility requirements and oversight have been ongoing topics among lawmakers seeking to balance fiscal responsibility with support for vulnerable populations.
