Congressman Dan Crenshaw, who represents Texas’s 2nd district in the U.S. House of Representatives, used his social media platform on July 18, 2025, to comment on the passage of President Trump’s rescissions package and its implications for federal spending.
In a post made early that morning, Crenshaw wrote: “Congress just passed President Trump’s rescissions package. What does that mean? It’s how we cut waste from the federal budget *after* the money has already been approved. Over $9 billion in reckless subsidies and ideological handouts—gone. Here’s a breakdown: “ (July 18, 2025).
He continued in another message posted at the same time: “$8 billion of these savings come from clawing back bloated foreign spending. I’ve always supported targeted investments that strengthen U.S. interests. This wasn’t that. This was a taxpayer-funded grab bag of global pet projects with little to no return for the American people.” (July 18, 2025).
Crenshaw concluded his thread by stating: “None of this made America stronger. None of it helped working families. It funded ideology, not results. This package puts America’s priorities first again. Huge win for taxpayers.” (July 18, 2025).
The rescissions package referenced by Crenshaw is a legislative tool allowing Congress to revoke previously approved funds deemed unnecessary or excessive after initial appropriations have been made.
Dan Crenshaw has served as the U.S. Representative for Texas’s 2nd District since 2019, succeeding Ted Poe ([source](https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/C001120)). He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984 and currently resides in Humble, Texas. Crenshaw graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006.
