U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued a statement following the Senate’s decision to advance the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This legislation aims to address several key issues, including tax relief for Texas families, border security, and economic growth.
“Senate Republicans are one step closer to delivering on President Trump’s agenda by advancing the One Big Beautiful Bill,” stated Sen. Cornyn. He emphasized that the bill seeks to “avoid a massive tax increase on Texas families, secure our southern border, remove burdensome taxes on Americans exercising their Second Amendment rights, and chart our country on a path toward fiscal sanity.”
The bill includes provisions that Sen. Cornyn has supported, such as $13.5 billion in reimbursements for states like Texas that have taken measures to secure the southern border during the Biden-Harris administration. It also contains language concerning the potential relocation of the Space Shuttle Discovery to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Other notable components include Sen. Cornyn’s Stop Funding Genital Mutilation Act, which would restrict federal funding from Medicaid and CHIP for gender transition procedures at any age, and an adapted version of his Small Business Investment Act aimed at facilitating financing for small businesses.
Further provisions focus on reducing taxes on firearms and silencers and supporting feral swine eradication efforts with $105 million allocated for control programs.
The bill proposes significant tax benefits for Texas families by preventing substantial tax hikes and protecting jobs while ensuring child tax credits remain intact. It also sets work requirements for certain able-bodied adults without dependents or elderly parents in their care.
In terms of border security, the bill allocates $46.5 billion for infrastructure improvements like building a border wall and associated facilities, alongside additional funding for personnel surges and detention facilities.
Additional resources are designated for enhancing immigration processes through increased staffing at DHS and DOJ to manage immigration backlogs effectively.
Senator Cornyn highlighted these elements as part of a broader effort to prioritize Texans’ needs while aligning with President Trump’s policy objectives.
