U.S. Senator John Cornyn has outlined his tax priorities in the Senate Finance Committee’s legislative text for the Senate’s version of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. In a statement released on June 16, 2025, Cornyn emphasized the significance of this legislation.
“The One Big Beautiful Bill presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Congress to bend the spending curve, make key provisions of the Trump Tax Cuts permanent, and improve the lives of hardworking Texas families,” said Sen. Cornyn. He acknowledged Chairman Crapo’s leadership in advancing this legislation, describing it as an important step toward fulfilling President Trump’s mandate.
The bill includes several provisions advocated by Senator Cornyn:
– The Stop Funding Genital Mutilation Act, which would prohibit federal funding from Medicaid and CHIP for gender transition procedures at any age.
– A modified version of the Small Business Investment Act aimed at facilitating access to financing for small and start-up businesses.
– Reductions in taxes and regulations on certain firearms and silencers.
– Prevention of a potential $3,000 tax increase on average Texas families.
– Protection of 547,000 Texas jobs from being lost.
– Assurance that more than 3.7 million Texas households’ child tax credit remains intact.
– Shielding over two million Texas small business owners from significant tax hikes.
– Maintenance of standard deductions for more than 12 million Texas families.
– Establishment of work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents or elderly parents in their care.
– No taxes on tips or overtime for millions of tipped and hourly workers.
Senator Cornyn’s involvement in these provisions reflects his role as a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee.
