Guard Corey Hadnot II has signed a scholarship agreement to join the University of Houston Men’s Basketball program and will compete for the Cougars during the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson announced on April 24.
Hadnot, originally from Houston and a former Cypress Creek High School player, will enter as a senior with one season of eligibility remaining. His addition is seen as significant for the team due to his scoring ability and experience.
“In college basketball, you have to have a few guys who, when everything breaks down, they can go get a basket. You don’t have to draw something up for them. You have to have a bucket-getter. Corey is one of those guys who has no fear,” Sampson said. “He is a good shooter, who can still improve. Corey has really good skills with the ball in his hands. I am excited about getting Corey indoctrinate into our program and make him a Cougar.”
Hadnot played all 100 games during his first three seasons at Purdue Fort Wayne and started in 32 games last year. He increased his scoring average each season there and led the Mastodons with an average of 20.4 points per game as a junior in the 2025-26 season.
During that same year, he led the Horizon League in scoring average and scored 654 points—marking the third highest single-season total in school history—and recorded eighteen games with at least twenty points, including a career-high thirty-two against Bowling Green. He was named to both the All-Horizon League First Team and NABC All-Great Lakes District Second Team while also earning three Horizon League Player of the Week honors.
Earlier in his collegiate career, Hadnot was named to the league’s All-Freshman Team after playing all thirty-six games as a freshman and was recognized five times as Freshman of the Week.
