Canchola posts SWAC’s top steeplechase time at 44 Farms Invitational

Katherine Canchola recorded the fastest steeplechase time in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season during the women’s track and field competition at the 44 Farms Invitational, held at Texas A&M on April 12.

Canchola finished second overall in the steeplechase event with a personal-best time of 11:52.16. This performance led her team, which achieved four top-10 marks during the meet.

Other notable results included Cesley Williams running a time of 23.76 seconds in the 200 meters, ranking as the sixth-fastest in SWAC this season. Stacy Guerrero completed the 5,000 meters in 18:59.04, earning her tenth place and marking it as the eighth-fastest conference time for that event.

Demaya Malone reached a personal best of five feet, four and one-quarter inches to secure tenth place in the high jump, while Destinee Payne placed ninth with a mark of thirty-nine feet, six and one-half inches in the triple jump.

The Texas Southern University women’s track and field team is scheduled to compete next weekend at the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of Houston.
