Houston Swimming & Diving Head Diving Coach Bob Gunter was named Big 12 Diving Coach of the Year, according to an April 8 announcement from the conference.
The recognition highlights Gunter’s continued success and leadership within collegiate diving. It marks his seventh overall conference coach of the year honor, having previously received the title six times during Houston’s time in the American Athletic Conference.
Gunter has led the Cougars for eleven seasons and has sent three student-athletes to NCAA competitions over the past three years, with those athletes competing in a total of ten events. This season, he guided freshman Maisy Woloszyn to win Houston’s first individual Big 12 Conference title in program history with her victory in the 3-meter diving event. Junior Michelle McLeod also earned a win on platform for Houston, and together they helped secure third place for their team in diving at the conference meet.
Woloszyn was later named Big 12 Freshman of the Meet, while McLeod was recognized as Big 12 Diver of the Meet following their performances at conference. Both divers advanced to NCAA competition this season; McLeod competed in all three events and Woloszyn participated on the 3-meter board.
Gunter’s coaching contributed to seven new personal best scores among his divers this season, including top marks by Woloszyn across all three events.
