U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with Congressman Ronny Jackson, have introduced a bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Amarillo, Texas. The proposal aims to honor Mayor Jerry H. Hodge by naming the building after him.
Senator Cornyn highlighted Mayor Hodge’s contributions to Amarillo, stating: “From helping to establish several institutions of higher education in Amarillo to leading the effort to bring a minor league baseball team to the city, Mayor Jerry Hodge was a cornerstone of the Amarillo community.” He expressed pride in joining his colleagues in this legislative effort.
Senator Cruz also praised Mayor Hodge’s achievements: “Mayor Hodge was a pillar of the Amarillo community and a true servant leader to the Panhandle.” He noted that Hodge transformed a local pharmacy into a national enterprise and played an instrumental role in establishing the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Congressman Jackson added his support for the legislation, emphasizing that “Jerry Hodge’s impact on Amarillo extended far beyond his titles.” He described Hodge as both a successful businessman and rancher who worked tirelessly for the Texas Panhandle.
The bill seeks to ensure that future generations remember Mayor Jerry H. Hodge’s contributions and legacy.
